A proper ‘run’ over the Wrekin today. 35 minutes up, 14 down, the 2.57 miles/4.14 km in 46:11.

Some interesting obstacles – fallen trees to jump or clamber over – on the way up. Beyond me to keep a continuous running pace with a 1:3 slope in places. I managed about a quarter of it, walking the rest of the ascent. Ran, carefully, all of the way down, wary of tripping on the rocky path. So, sub-45 minutes would be my next target and sub-30 a dream. The record (according to Strava) is 13:45 up and 6:22 down, 20:07!

Met Mike, a 76-year-old service veteran who kindly chatted. He runs with weights – taped black to minimize people noticing them and quizzing him – and also with a damaged back, the latter gained after a tumble on Scafell Pike “trying to show off to some youngsters”, I think he said. My very best wishes to Mike and good luck with the forthcoming treatment.

Had planned a third ‘Random Point’ in the afternoon, but just as I arrived at Birmingham New Street there was a major power outage halting all trains. A vehicle had hit a bridge, damaging cables, I heard one of the rail staff say, but don’t know if that was correct. After an hour waiting to see if things resolved, marched to Moor Street and fortuitously found a Leamington Spa train just leaving before the knock-on effects started to jam up that station. I wasn’t the only one who thought to do that, meaning a cozy trip home.
