► AFTER BERENICE ABBOTT IN LEICESTER.

Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) was a American photographer whose urban landscapes appeal to my eye – they emphasise architecture in a geometric, abstract or even vorticist way. I was pleased to find there was a link, if very tenuous, with Annie L. Swynnerton, the artist I have made a special study of, Berenice being a friend of Margaret Sargent, a relative of John Singer Sargent, Annie’s great advocate.

Visiting Leicester today I came across a building in the early stages of construction which reminded me of her work, so took a few photos. The site manager happened to notice me and said he’d like to see the results … so here they are:
